Anthony Alvarez has been sentenced in State Supreme Court to nine years in state prison after pleading guilty over the summer to first-degree assault stemming from an incident in Peekskill last year.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Christmas Day last year, Alvarez, who authorities say is homeless, was in a South Street deli with several other men when an altercation broke out. Over the course of the incident, Alvarez attacked another man, stabbing him in the neck with a knife.

Alvarez’s victim was rushed to the hospital, underwent emergency surgery and ultimately survived. At the time of the assault, Alvarez did not have a permanent address and was considered homeless.
